Tomorrow morning I'll be running the Urban Cow Half Marathon for the second year in a row. I have 12 miles on deck for my final "long" run, so I figured this would be the perfect substitute and a heck of a lot more fun. And who doesn't love signing up for races at the last minute? A supported long run on new territory, with a cute shirt, a sweet cowbell medal, and free food afterward? How could I resist! And since it's sponsored by my work, that means my entry was gratis, which was just icing on the cake : )
Last year I actually set a big PR at this race (which has since been smashed!), but this year things will be quite different. Since Chicago is next weekend (yikes!), that means I need to take this suuuper easy. Knowing how I often throw my game plans out the window when a race starts, I'm going to keep myself in check by starting with the 2:05 pace group and sticking with them til the end. Ironically, I started with the same pace group last year, but back then it was a challenging pace that resulted in a PR! Now it's pretty close to my current long run pace and slower than marathon goal pace so I shouldn't be overdoing it, just an easy training run. Should be fun!
