TGIF

1. A couple weeks ago a couple of my coworkers talked me into putting my name in the lottery for the Houston Half Marathon in January. The U.S. Marathon Olympic Trials are being held in Houston the same weekend, so we thought it would be fun to watch the trials and then run the half. Never having been to Texas, I figured why not! Despite my previous bad luck with lotteries (ahem...New York), all three of us got in! I know it's a long way off but I'm already pretty excited : )

2. A bit more in the immediate future, I snagged an awesome deal on flights to Chicago for the marathon in October. It's nice to have that out of the way, now I just have to book a hotel and actually start training! Anyone else running Chicago? I can't wait!
can't wait to see the bean!

3. This time tomorrow I will be on a cruise ship on my way to....ALASKA!! It looks like I'll be getting out of Sacramento just in time, too. According to the forecast, on the 4th of July it's supposed to be 104 degrees! I'm definitely looking forward to the cooler temps up north. Besides relaxing and eating awesome food, I'm going to try to fit in some "training". There's supposedly a gym that should have treadmills (and hopefully stationery bikes), so I bought a Garmin foot pod from work so I can track my distance and pace when I run. Although there isn't a lap pool, there is a "current" pool where you can swim in place. I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I've never tried one before, but I don't think I'm going to like swimming in one place and not seeing any progress : / My riding is obviously going to suffer the most, but I've made my peace with that. I'm really going to make an effort to enjoy this vacation and not dwell too much on training or feel guilty about not doing as much this week. I'm bringing along my Macbook so I'll post updates throughout the week.

Bon voyage!
